If someone would’ve told me five years ago that I would be where I am today, I wouldn’t believe them. By no means am I where I want to be in life, but honestly I thought that I would be in a better place than where I am. There’s the good, the bad and the ugly in life that growing up we don’t find out about until we literally begin to experience life. Like many of you, I too had planned the perfect life growing up. I planned to go to college, get the amazing job, marry the amazing money making man who takes the children and I to church every Sunday, have straight A children and just enjoy life! I laugh now to think that what I failed to include were the many trials and tribulations that one encounters when getting to the make-believe life. Life has been tough, I’ve been miserable and often found myself wallowing in the pit of regret. Yep, we’ve all been there and done that but like a rubber band, we bounce back. 🙂
Society has conditioned us to believe that success is measured by how many “likes” you get on a post rather than one truly focusing on the goals that we have accomplished as individuals in this life. And contrary to what you say, you know that when you make a celebratory post about your accomplishment, you wait and look for the likes….as if you need the validation to say “I made it.” The corrupt thing about social media is that it takes our focus off the dash! Yes, the dash….the little horizontal mark in between the month/date/year that you let the world know that you’ve arrived to the day that, well….you know….you either hear “well done” or “depart.” I’m going in the rapture (to be with my Lord) though, I don’t know about you! Lol….So, there I was listening to a world renowned speaker when he simply said, “I want to die empty.” I too want to leave this world empty because I could care less about “likes” and instead want my focus to be emptying all of me into each and everyone who is willing to listen.
When I was younger, my mom would take me to the cemetery. Now that I look back, the Lord was very strategic with how my mother raised me and to this day, I thank her. Romans 8:28 “And we know all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord and are called according to his purpose.” (Biblical Scholars this is the SweetTee translation). The random trips taught me that life can be gone at any given time, for any reason, sometimes with but often without notice. It taught me that life is fragile and to handle it with care. Each time I see a cemetery, I can’t help but to think about how many people died with their dreams unfulfilled…..so caught up working that they never put their own ideas on paper to initiate a process to fulfill the plan to accomplish a specific purpose. I promised myself that I would stop talking about it and just do it! Here I am, pursuing one of my dreams that I pray will allow me to empty myself each and every time a pen touches the paper or that my fingers touch the keyboard. I pray that the written words will pierce your soul and stimulate your mental faucet that will enable you to pour out your own gifts and ideas that you often think of.
Don’t be afraid to try, be afraid of allowing yet another moment to pass wondering “what if.” As an HR professional in my chosen career, I often find myself asking employees if there was something else they wanted to do other than what they were being paid for…..what would it be? Occasionally, there are employees who know what they want to do but have never really pursued it, some who have never known, and some who just don’t have the tools to make it happen. In a world full of technology, I encourage you today to pursue your dreams, accomplish your goals, and to get rid of “I don’t know” in your vocabulary! I challenge you to pour of yourself…..empty yourself of all your ideas! Get your pen, paper and get to writing! Figure it out, so that when the time comes…..you too…..will die empty.

Prior to this week, if you entered my office, you would notice it was a little darker than normal. The light in the entrance area went out and quite frankly, I like working in the dark because some days I just can’t stand the light. A coworker and I were venting our frustrations about the […]
There was a time most recently where I would literally think myself into what many may refer to as depression, because I was thinking of everything I could’ve done differently in life, the other choices I could’ve made but didn’t, going right instead of left, you get my point. I found myself in constant thought […]
It’s 1:40 a.m. on April 21, 2020 and I’ve decided to make another post. Covid-19 has come and literally shut the world down so many of us have a little extra time to get much needed rest, bond with family, reevaluate our life etc. Whatever you decide to do, just be sure you take care […]
There’s the famous saying that “an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.” And while having an idle mind leads to all types of thoughts, even a busy mind entertains idle thoughts from time to time. My idleness during this quarantine time has provided me different topics to write about, and while some of them may […]

How many times have you found yourself saying, “If I knew then what I know now,I would’ve definitely made better choices?” Have you ever thought back to the times where you missed the warning signs because you were so caught up pursuing what felt good rather than what was right? You ever think back to […]
The game of life, always played to be won, never to lose but what matters is who is there to help you when the season doesn’t turn out like you expected. The difference between how we react to our wins and losses depends solely upon our support system or what many may call our fans. […]
